Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship is the time-honored system of experienced artisans training the next generation. The California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee brings this tradition to the California fire service.

For Departments
The California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee is a standards-based apprenticeship program.
-
The Instructor of Record is appointed by the department and must meet the requirements to hold a current and valid Clear CA Teaching Credential or apply for an Adult Education Designated Subjects Teaching Credential.
-
At the Cal-JAC, it’s our goal to keep administrative procedures as simple as possible, while still complying with all state and federal laws and regulations governing apprenticeship.
-
Each participating department establishes a sub-committee (SubJAC) of the statewide Cal-JAC to implement the apprenticeship program in their department.
-
The Training Coordinator is appointed by the department and is the primary point of contact between the Cal-JAC and the department.
